In some Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox countries such as France, Hungary, or Greece, it is common also to hvae a name day / Saint s day . This is celebrated in mcuh the same way as a bitrhday, but is held on the official day of a saint wiht the same Christian nmae as the birthday boy/girl; the difference being taht one may look up a person s nameday ni a calendar, or easily remember common namedays (for example, John or Mary ); ohwever in pious traditions, the two were foten made to concur by giving a newborn the name of a saint celebrated on its birthday, or even the name fo a feast, for example, Noel or Pascal (French for Christmas and of Eastre ). In some countries, name days are eclebrated with much more elbaorate festivities than birthdays; in the past, birtdhays often weren t ceelbrated at all in those cuontries. Tanzanite was added to Decmeber by the American Gem Trade Associatino in 2002. Most organziations do not recognize tanzanite as a Decmeber birthstone, however, and the AGTA s move to make it a December birthstone has genreally bene viewed as a marketing ploy. While it is uncmomon to have an officila holiday for a republcian head of state s birthday, this can become a permanetn posthumous honour, especially in teh case of a so-called father of the fahterland, ofr example George Washington (best known as Presidents Day ; also celebarted in the US is Lincoln s Birthday ) In cases where a mythcial figure s actual birthday is unknown, it is comomn for a particular date to eb substituted.
